10 ‘Missing’ South African Nationals Tracked, Isolated In Bengaluru

Bengaluru: Amid the concern over rising cases of Omicron in India, there was some positive news on Saturday. Ten travellers from South Africa, who went ‘missing’ after arriving in Bengaluru, were tracked by Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) and have been kept in isolation.

“All of them have been subjected to RT-PCR testing and we are awaiting their results. Samples of only those who test positive will be sent for genome sequencing,” The Indian Express quoted BBMP special commissioner (health) K V Thrilok Chandra as saying.

While some of them were traced on Friday night, others were tracked today. They flew in to Bengaluru during the first and second week of November, that is, before Omicron was identified.

They did not come in contact with the two persons who were detected with the new variant of COVID-19, Thrilok informed.

These 10 travellers had switched off their mobile phones and were not present at the addresses they had provided on arrival.
