Bhubaneswar: After a respite for a few days, hot and humid conditions pushed up mercury 39 degree Celsius and more at 10 places in Odisha on Sunday.

According to evening bulletin of the regional centre of India Meteorological Department (IMD) in Bhubaneswaer, Paralakhemundi, the district headquarters of Gajapati, was the hottest place in the state with maximum (day) temperature of 40.5 degree Celsius.

Paralakhemundi was followed by Malkangiri with 39.9 degree Celsius, Bhubaneswar 39.6, Nayagarh and Jagatsinghpur 39.5, Chandbali and Bhawanipatna 39.4, Baripada 39.2, and Bhadrak and Kendrapada with 39 degree.

The mercury had soared to 37.4 degree in Bhubaneswar by 11.30 am amid hot and humid conditions and was expected to touch 40 degree.

The IMD said the day temperature very likely to rise by 4 degree to 6 degree at many places in the state due to prevailing mainly Northwesterly/Westerly dry air and high solar insolation.

The maximum temperature (day temperature) is likely to be more than 40 degree at many places and may go above normal by 3 to 5 degree in some districts during next 4 to 5 days.

The Met office has advised the people to take precautionary measures while going outside during day time between 11 am and 3 pm.
