Malkangiri: In a major crackdown, Orkel police seized more than 10 quintals of ganja near Pilakusimi forest in Malkangiri district on Sunday.
Three persons were arrested for possessing the banned substance.
According to police sources, the arrested were carrying 66 sacks of ganja to Chhattisgarh from Malkangiri.
Acting on a tip-off, a police team conducted raid in the forest area and managed to arrest the trio with the contraband. However, as many as 33 ‘Kawariyas’ managed to flee the spot during raid.
The accused are being interrogated to ascertain the involvement of other people with the ganja smuggling racket.
On Saturday, the Quick Action Team (QAT) of Commissionerate Police had seized ganja weighing about 94 kg amounting to Rs 4.50 lakh from Jhinkiria village under Sadar police limits in Cuttack district.
Two brothers identified as Narayan Pati and Lalat Pati were arrested for allegedly possessing the contraband.
