Balasore: A 10-year-old student died after wall of a water tank collapsed on him on a school premises at Padmapur in Odisha’s Balasore district on Friday.
The deceased has been identified as Narayan Tudu, a Class V student of Banchhanidhi English Medium School. He was native of Baranga in Khurda district.
According to sources, Narayan used to reside in the school hostel. The incident took place when he along with other hostel inmates went wash his hands near the water tank after breakfast. He was rescued from under the debris of the wall and rushed to district headquarters hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
Several other students also sustained injuries in the mishap.
The school principal told the media that the water tank unexpectedly collapsed while the students were washing their hands, resulting in Narayan’s death.
Balasore Collector Ashish Thakare has ordered a probe into the incident. District Education Officer (DEO) Prativa Manjari Das will conduct an on-the-spot inquiry under the guidance of the Additional District Magistrates, sources added.
