Over 150 Fall Ill After Drinking Sherbet During Mahashivratri

Cuttack: More than 150 people fell ill after consuming sherbet during Mahashivratri celebrations at Raisunguda village under Salepur Tehsil of Cuttack district on Wednesday night.

The victims were immediately rushed to Mahanga and Salepur hospitals after they complained of stomach ache and started vomiting after consuming the contaminated cold drinks, which they had purchased from a shop near Sapneswar temple during Mahashivratri celebrations.

Sources said nine patients have been rushed to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack after condition became critical.

However, their health condition is stated to be stable. An investigation is underway to ascertain the cause of the incident.

Meanwhile, efforts are on by the Salepur police to nab the sherbat seller.
