Pune: Her age may be a ripe 105, but she is not old enough to bow down to the deadly coronavirus.
After being treated for 10 days at a city-based hospital, Shantabai Hulavale has been declared COVID-recovered.
Her grandson Sandip said that the entire family had tested positive for COVID-19.
“Along with her, five others were admitted to the hospital. She is a tough one. She doesn’t have any comorbidity. Her spirit and zest for life has helped all of us through this tough period,” Sandip was quoted as saying by Hindustan Times.
A doctor who was looking after her said she had pneumonia and tested COVID positive. “We treated her with antivirals and oxygen support for around 10 to 12 days. And she showed signs of recovery,” said Dr Kiran Muley, adding that coronavirus patients in this age bracket is rare.
“We get patients who are above the age of 60. But this was a very rare incident where we had a patient who was 105 years old. She received timely treatment, but her will power to live helped her recover soon,” said Dr Muley.
“She was advised to walk in the ward and do deep breathing. She followed all instructions religiously,” praised the doctor.
