Kolkata: At least 106 doctors in three hospitals here have tested positive for COVID-19 in the last 24 hours, a West Bengal Health department official said on Monday.
PTI quoted the official as saying that at least 70 doctors of Calcutta National Medical College and Hospital including the principal, 24 from Chittaranjan Seva Sadan and Shishu Sadan Hospital, and 12 of the Regional Institute of Ophthalmology have contracted the virus.
“The doctors have been asked to go for institutional quarantine,” he said.
The administration has started contact tracing, as well as clinical examination of everyone in the three hospitals.
West Bengal is among the top states with fresh COVID cases, having reported 6,153 infections on Sunday. Kolkata accounted for 3,194 of those with the positivity rate being over 30%.
