10L Doses Of Vaccines Administered In 45 Days, Odisha Targets 1L/Day Now

Bhubaneswar: Odisha has administered over 10 lakh doses of COVID-19 vaccine to healthcare workers, frontline workers and elderly citizens since January 16.

“More than 10 lakh doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered from January 16 to March 10, excluding holidays,” the Health and Family Welfare Department tweeted on Thursday.

The first five lakh doses were given in 30 days, and the next five lakh in just 15 days, the Department informed while congratulating all frontline COVID Warriors for making this possible.

On Wednesday, the government had asked the authorities concerned to increase the COVID-19 vaccination of senior citizens to one lakh per day after an AirAsia flight carrying a consignment of 9,04,180 doses of Covishield vaccine reached Odisha.

In a letter to all district collectors and municipal commissioners, Additional Chief Secretary of Health and Family Welfare Department, PK Mohapatra directed them to accelerate the pace of vaccination of elderly persons in all districts and urban areas.

The officials were also asked to activate private hospitals as COVID Vaccination Centres.

The third phase of vaccination against COVID-19 was launched across the country on March 1 for persons above 60 years and those between 45 and 59 years of age with co-morbidities.

During the first two phases of vaccination, healthcare workers and frontline workers were vaccinated.
