Puri: Sri Jagannath temple administration (SJTA) on Tuesday handed over 11 boxes containing silver ingots to the district treasury authorities for storing in their strongroom for refurbishing Kalahata Dwar of Srimandir before next Ratha Yatra.
According to official sources, the keys to the boxes would be kept with the treasury for future use in the temple.
The temple administration intends to fix silver plates on the Kalahat gate during the Srigundicha Yatra. The silver ingots preserved in the strongroom of the Bhakt Niwas. were shifted to the treasury on Tuesday on the requisition of SJTA to the district magistrate for security reasons.
As per SJTA plan, eight gates of the temple would be coated with 2,500 kg of silver ingots donated by a Mumbai-based devotee. The process for Beherana Dwar, Jaya Vijay Dwar, Sata Pahacha Dwar, Bhoga Mandap Dwar, Laxmi Mandir Dwar, Adi Nrusingha Mandir Dwar and Bimala Mandir Dwar has already been completed, said the sources in the shrine.
