Bhubaneswar: Eleven members of the notorious Eragola gang involved in a series of robberies in different parts of Odisha were arrested by a special squad of the Commissionerate Police on Wednesday.
Cash to the tune of Rs 2 lakh, 17 gold chains and other items have been seized from the possession of the gang members, Commissioner of Police of Cuttack-Bhubaneswar Sanjeeb Panda told reporters.
All of the arrested gang members hail from Tippa Colony in Nellore district of Andhra Pradesh and belong to Eragola tribe. Efforts are on to nab some other members of the notorious gang.
Known for notorious activities like snatching, thefts and robberies, the gang members usually target people returning from banks after withdrawing money and women wearing gold jewellery.
They also break open car glass windows and dickey of scooters and bikes to steal valuables kept in vehicles.
The Commissionerate Police found a disturbing trend where snatching, theft and burglary cases were committed by criminals from other states. Acting on series of complaints filed in this regard, the Special Squad swung into action and nabbed the criminals, police said.
