Bhubaneswar: A total of 111 blocks in 20 districts of Odisha have been badly affected by the heavy rain.
According to a preliminary report by the office of the Special Relief Commissioner (SRC), 3696 villages and 27 urban local bodies (ULBs) have been affected.
While heavy rain has caused the death of four persons including two from Kendrapada (wall collapse) and one each from Khurda (drowning) and Ganjam (wall collapse) districts, 20,46,022 people have been affected, the report added.
While 2870 houses have been damaged, the district administrations have evacuated 13,534 people from the low-lying areas. However, there is no trace of a person from Nischintkoili block in Cuttack district who was swept away by the swirling floodwaters on September 12.
Among the affected districts, heavy rain has rendered maximum damage in Jagatsinghpur district where 11,36,971 people of 1321 villages have been affected.
Apart from Jagatsinghpur, 7,79,241 people in Kendrapada, 48457 in Dhenkanal, 21,596 in Cuttack and 21,525 in Jajpur have also been affected, the report added.
The SRC has directed the collectors of the affected districts to submit the final report by September 22 on the basis of which the state government will provide compensation to the affected people.
