Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has decided to take action against 111 college teachers for conducting private tuition in gross violation of its directive.
Sources in the Higher Education department said a list of 111 college teachers in the coastal districts has been prepared in the first phase.
Of the 111 lecturers, 18 are from BJB Autonomous College, Rama Devi Women’s University, Rama Devi Junior College, Biju Patnaik College and Ekamra College in Bhubaneswar, 13 from Khurda district, 35 from Bhadrak district, 13 from Jajpur district, 7 from Cuttack district, 12 from Kendrapada district and 13 from Balasore, Puri and Keonjhar districts.
These lecturers were found offering private tuitions mostly in Physics, Chemistry, Botany, Zoology, Mathematics, English, Economics and Commerce subjects.
“The state government in a letter to all government and non-government colleges had directed the lecturers not to resort to private tuition and conduct coaching classes. Acting on the directive, the lecturers had given their undertakings to the principal concerned that they will abide by the government order. The government had also sent a reminder in this regard on January 23. In spite of this, if the government receives any complaint on private tuition, stern action will be taken against the truant lecturers,” Regional Director, Higher Education, Mihir Sethi told the media here.
