Bhubaneswar: The daily test positivity rate in Odisha dropped below 9 per cent with 5896 of 68896 samples testing positive for COVID-19 in the last 24 hours.
While the state recorded a TPR of 8.5 per cent on Tuesday, it was 9.10 per cent and 9.72 on Monday and Sunday respectively.
There has been a drop of 54.12 per cent in daily cases while TPR has decreased by 12.56 per cent in the last 17 days. On May 22, Odisha had reported 12,852 fresh infections and the TPR was 21.15 per cent.
Speaking to the media, State Health Director Dr Bijay Mohapatra on Tuesday said that the daily decline in test positivity rate is varying between 0.5 per cent and 1 per cent.
“We are hopeful of achieving an acceptable COVID19 positivity rate in the next 7-8 days,” he added.
Meanwhile, the positivity rate in Khurda district has dropped below 10 per cent. It was 9 per cent on Tuesday. While Jajpur posted the highest TPR of 23 per cent, it was lowest at 2 per cent in Nuapada. Puri has a TPR of 19.2 per cent, followed by Cuttack (17.7%), Kandhamal (16.6%), Mayurbhanj (13.9%) and Jagatsinghpur (12.3%).

Mohapatra further informed that 63 per cent of ICU and 62 per cent of ventilators are currently occupied. General beds are lying vacant, he added.
