Khurda: At least 12 persons were injured, many of them critically, when a passenger bus carrying them skidded off the road and dashed against a tree in Bolgarh area of Odisha’s Khurda district on Monday.
As per preliminary information, the private bus was proceeding from Bhubaneswar towards Nayagarh when the mishap took place near Gopabandhu Chhak in Bolgarh.
Sources said that the bus with around 50 passengers on board skidded off the road and rammed into a taxi stand after hitting a tree.
Though the exact reason why the mishap occurred is not clear, eyewitnesses said it could be due to an attempt to save another vehicle on the road.
Soon after the mishap, a massive operation was launched and the passengers were rescued. The injured passengers were rushed to a hospital nearby. The condition of five passengers was stated to be critical.
