Nagpur: At least 12 Maoists were killed on Wednesday in an encounter with police and commandos in Maharashtra’s Gadchiroli district, near Chhattisgarh border, PTI reported.
According to Gadchiroli SP Nilotpal, there was a heavy exchange of fire between C60 commandos and Maoists in Wandoli village on Wednesday afternoon. The encounter lasted six hours.
Twelve bodies of Maoists were recovered from the scene of the encounter. Police also recovered seven automotive weapons, including 3 AK-47s, 2 INSAS rifles, a carbine and an SLR.
Vishal Atram, who was in charge of Tipagad Dalam, was one of the dozen Maoists killed.
The security forces are identifying the other slain Maoists.
Maharashtra Home Minister Devendra Fadnavis has declared a Rs 51 lakh reward for C60 commando members and Gadchiroli Police, the SP told PTI.
A sub-inspector of C60 and one jawan were injured in the encounter. They have been shifted to Nagpur after being evacuated from the spot and are out of danger, the SP informed.
