Bhubaneswar: As the blistering heatwave showed no sign of abating in Odisha, the maximum temperature soared up to 40 degree Celsius of more in at least 32 places in the state on Monday.
As per the evening bulletin issued by the Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar, Baripada in Mayurbhanj district turned out to be the hottest place in the state recording a maximum temperature of 44.8 degree Celsius.
The mercury touched 44 degree Celsus or more in at least four places. Similarly, at least 12 places in the state recorded 43 degree Celsius or more during the day.
Baripada was closely followed by Angul where the maximum temperature touched 44.3 degree Celsius, while the mercury stood at 44.1 degree Celsius in Boudh and 44 degree Celsius in Talcher.
Similarly, Titilagarh in Balangir district recorded 43.5 degree Celsius, while the maximum temperature was 43.2 degree in Dhenkanal, and 43 degree Celsius in Nayagarh, Malkangiri, Balangir, Keonjhar and Nuapada.
State capital Bhubaneswar recorded 41.3 degree Celsius showing considerable drop in temperature, while the mercury stood at 42.5 degree Celsius in Cuttack city.
The weather agency has predicted that the intense heatwave will continue to scorch Odisha till May 3 during which the day temperature is likely to remain 3-6°C above normal in some districts.
The red warning issued by the weather agency for severe heatwave continues for another two days while orange and yellow warning persists till May 3.
People have been advised to take precautionary measure while going outside during peak hours of the day time between 11 am and 3 pm.
