Bhubaneswar: Several parts of Odisha continued to remain in the grip of heatwave as 12 places recorded maximum temperature of 40 degree Celsius or more on Tuesday.
According to evening bulletin of the regional centre of India Meteorological Department (IMD) in Bhubaneswar, Sambalpur was the hottest place in the state with day temperature of 43.3 degree Celsius. It was followed by Boudh with 42.9, Jharsuguda 42.4, Hirakud 42.2, Rourkela and Bargarh 41.6, Titlagarh 41.5 and Sonepur 41.2 degree Celsius.
The IMD has forecast no change in the day temperature with mercury soaring to 42 degree Celsius at one or two places in Interior Odisha during the next 5 days. The mercury is likely to touch 43 degree Celsius in Boudh and Balangir on May 31, while Sambalpur, Jharsuguda, Sonepur, Titlagarh, Balangir and Boudh are likely to experience the same temperature on June 2.
The Met office has also issued a yellow warning for thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph at one or two places in the districts of Malkangiri, Koraput, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Jajpur, Bhadrak, Balasore by 8.30 am on Wednesday.
Similarly, thunderstorm with lightning is very likely to occur at one or two places in Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Sundargarh, Angul, Dhenkanal and Rayagada during the period.
