Baripada: In a shocking incident, a 12-year-old girl was allegedly beaten to death and her body hanged from at a village in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district.
According to preliminary information, the brutal incident took place at Bhaluhuruda village under the jurisdiction of Udala police station in the district.
Family members of the girl alleged that she killed by neighbours who reportedly found her stealing marigold saplings from the backyard of their house.
The mother of the deceased girl has lodged a complaint at the Udala police station in this regard.
Sources said the girl’s mother Sita Hansda had reportedly gone to Bhubaneswar on Wednesday after requesting the neighbour to look after her daughter during her absence.
However, she received a call in the evening that her daughter had stolen marigold saplings from the backyard of her neighbour. After her return, she was shocked to find her daughter’s body hanging with injury marks around the neck.
While the exact cause of death is yet to be ascertained, family members of the girl alleged that she was beaten to death and then her body hanged by the neighbours, who suspected her of having stolen marigold saplings.
Following the complaint, a team of police personnel from Udala visited the site and launched an investigation. The body has been seized and sent for postmortem.
