Jeypore: Police arrested a person on Saturday night on charges of smuggling over 121 kg of ganja near Jeypore in Koraput district.
The accused has been identified as Kartik Bagh.
Acting on a piece of information received from a reliable source that the banned substance was being transported to Jeypore town in an unregistered car; a police team intercepted the vehicle and seized the ganja stuffed in a number of packets.
Police have started investigation to ascertain the source from where the accused used to procure the ganja.
In a similar seizure, on June 22, a huge consignment of ganja was recovered by excise sleuths from Basta railway station in Balasore district.
Three peddlers, including a woman, were arrested for possessing the ganja.
The peddlers had planned to go to West Bengal with 50 kg of ganja on Jagannath Express.
In another crackdown, on May 18, Orkel police in Malkangiri district had seized more than 10 quintals of ganja near Pilakusimi forest and arrested three persons in this connection.
The arrested were carrying 66 sacks of ganja to Chhattisgarh from Malkangiri.
