Bhubaneswar: Continuing its drive against violation of traffic regulations, the Commissionerate Police seized 121 vehicles in Bhubaneswar and Cuttack on Saturday night.
The ‘safe city drive’ was carried out at 55 vulnerable points of the cities by police teams led by Prateek Singh, DCP, Bhubaneswar and Prakash R, DCP, Cuttack under the supervision of Commissioner of Police Sanjeeb Panda. Their primary focus was on violations such as drunken driving, reverse riding and using mobile phones while driving, according to a release of the Commissionerate Police on Sunday.
The enforcement drive was conducted in the areas under the jurisdiction of police stations of Kharvelnagar, Khandagiri, Jatni, Infocity, Airfield, Nayapalli, Saheednagar, Chandaka, Bharatpur, Badagada, Capital, Airport, Nandankana, Mancheswar, Laxmisagar, Tamando, Infovalley, Pahala, Balianta, Balaipatna, Maitribihar and Chandrasekharpur.
During the drive, total 121 vehicles were seized and fine of Rs 66,000 collected for traffic violations including drunken driving, mobile phone use while driving, and reverse riding. The seized vehicles included high-end models such as Mercedes, Mahindra Thar, Skoda Octavia, Jeep Compass, Nissan Sunny, Baleno, Tata Nexon, Hyundai Creta, Tata Safari, Mahindra XUV 300, and Honda City.
Total, 23 cases were filed in court against the violators by Bhubaneswar UPD. The violators will pay fines to release their seized vehicles. Additionally, 44 cases were registered against traffic violators, with the police recommending the suspension of driving licenses to the Regional Transport Office (RTO).
