Rourkela: The alleged torture of a 13-year-old boy in police custody triggered widespread resentment in the city on Monday.
According to sources, the orphan boy was detained by police on Sunday on the charge of stealing a mobile phone. He was then allegedly tortured at Udit Nagar police station in the city.
Sources alleged that the boy was severely beaten, kicked with boots and given electric shock after being stripped naked. He was later released late at night.
After returning home, the boy narrated the ordeal to his grandmother and told her that police have threatened him not to disclose the incident to anyone.
