Bhopal: A 13-year-old boy sexually assaulted her 9-year-old sister after watching porn on a mobile phone and then killed her in Madhya Pradesh’s Rewa district.
The boy’s mother and elder sisters, aged 17 and 18, helped in the cover-up, an official of Madhya Pradesh Police said.
Police interrogated around 50 people before detaining the victim’s mother, brother and sisters who were subjected to intense questioning based on technical evidence.
The incident took place on April 24, when police received information that the body of a girl was lying in the courtyard of a house in Rewa.
The post-mortem report revealed evidence relating to rape and murder, following which a probe was launched.
“A nine-year-old girl was raped and strangled to death under Jawa police station limits on April 24, following which the police had registered a case and started a probe,” Rewa’s Superintendent of Police (SP) Vivek Singh told PTI.
“The body of the victim was recovered from the courtyard of her house where she was sleeping at the time of the incident,” he added.
It came to light following interrogation of family members that the 13-year-old had slept beside her sister at night. Possibly influenced by obscene videos that he watched on a phone, the teenager raped.
When the minor girl threatened to report this to their father, the boy strangled her. In panic, he woke up his mother and confided in her. On finding that the girl was still alive, the accused again strangled her.
The investigation revealed that the boy’s two elder sisters woke up after the crime and changed the spot of their bed before informing the police to mislead them.
However, they confessed to the crime during interrogation.
The Rewa SP also informed that family members of the victim initially told police that she died after being bitten by a poisonous insect.
“After collecting technical evidence and interrogation of 50 people, police found repeated changes in the statements of the family members. On the basis of suspicion, they were intensely interrogated, following which they admitted the crime,” the SP said.
