Bhubaneswar: The COVID-19 toll in Odisha touched 8,525 on Monday with five more deaths being confirmed in the last 24 hours.
According to the Health Department, a 13-year-old girl from Cuttack district is among those whose death was confirmed to be due to COVID after an audit. Four among five victims had no comorbidities.
Details of the deceased are as follows:
1.A 57 years old female of Balasore district.
2.A 45 years old female of Bhubaneswar.
3.A 13 years old girl of Cuttack District.
4.A 78 years old Female of Keonjhar district who was also suffering from Asthma, Diabetes Mellitus & Hypertension.
5.A 35 years old female of Sundargarh district.
With these five cases, Odisha has reported 59 COVID deaths so far in January.
There were 56 casualties in December. As many as 80 COVID deaths were confirmed in November, 134 in October and 346 in September. Similarly, 2,056 fatalities were registered in August, while July saw 1,903 deaths, June 1,272 and May 737, said sources in the Health Department.
The second wave of the pandemic claimed 49 children and adolescents in Odisha. As many as 13 of these deaths were reported between August 10 and 31.
