133 Persons Arrested By STF For Different Offences In Odisha In 2022

Bhubaneswar: The Special Task Force (STF) of Odisha police has detected 75 cases and arrested 133 persons for different offences so far in 2022.

According to an STF release, the arrested persons included 2 from Rajasthan, 1 from Utter Pradesh, 2 from Delhi,
3 from West Bengal, 2 from Madhya Pradesh, 2 from Maharastra and 2 from Bihar.

The STF has registered total 27 NDPS cases and seized 22 kg of brown sugar, 2524 kg of ganja, 202 gm of cocaine,
517 gm of opium and Rs 65 lakh in cash so far.

In financial cases, it has seized movable and immovable properties worth more than 12.85 crore of drug traffickers. The properties have been forfeited in NDPS cases which has been approved by competent authority, Kolkata.

The STF has registered 31 cases regarding smuggling of wildlife products and live animals in the year. It has seized 14 leopard skins, 1 Royal Bengal Tiger hide, 1 leopard cat skin, 9 live pangolin, 22 kg of pangolin scale, 14 pieces of elephant tusk, 2 leopard teeth, 29 leopard claws and 46 live wild parrots. Two cases of cruelty to animals were registered and 189 cattle rescued this year.

It has registered 3 cases related to arms and ammunition, 4 fake currency cases and seized Rs 47,43,100.

The STF as a nodal agency also monitors and guides the district police in NDPS cases. During the year, Odisha Police has seized over 1162 quintals of ganja, 47 kg of brown sugar and 40,000 bottles of CBCS. The seizure of ganja by Odisha Police is one of the highest in country.

In financial cases, the police seized properties worth more than Rs 33 crore which is highest forfeiture of properties till date in NDPS cases.

The police have also destroyed illegal cultivation of cannabis in 23,724 acre which is highest destruction of illegal cultivation in the country.
