Mishima, Japan: At least 14 people were injured on Friday in a violent incident at a factory in central Japan that involved both stabbings and the spraying of an unknown liquid, emergency officials said. The attack took place at a rubber factory in Mishima, located in Shizuoka Prefecture, west of Tokyo, according to the Associated Press, which cited local media reports an
d emergency sources.
Local authorities said a man armed with a knife carried out the stabbing portion of the attack inside the factory premises. Following the assault, reports said the suspect also released an unspecified liquid, the nature of which has not been disclosed by officials.
Emergency services responded promptly, transporting the injured to nearby hospitals. According to the local firefighting department, eight of the victims were hospitalized, although the full conditions of all those injured have not yet been reported.
Police detained the suspect at the scene. Details about the attacker’s identity, motive, and the exact composition of the liquid remain under investigation.
Japanese authorities have not issued further official statements as investigations continue.
