Cuttack: Adulterated food worth over Rs 4 crore have been seized during police raids on 14 illegal units operating in the city in the last two months.
According to police sources, these units were producing adulterated products of reputed brands from spices to ghee, turmeric powder, sauce and honey. As many as 16 persons involved in the racket have been arrested and forwarded to the court.
While a unit manufacturing adulterated ghee by blending certain oil, soluble powder and chemicals was unearthed at Sriram Bazaar area on Sunday, similar unit was raided in Nuabazaar on Saturday.
Chauliaganj police had also located a factory producing adulterated turmeric and chilli powder. Another unit preparing adulterated chilli and turmeric powder was busted in Malgodown on November 11.
