Bhubaneswar: Amid IMD’s red warning for 10 districts of Odisha, 14 places witnessed temperature shooting up to 43 degree Celsius or more on Saturday.
According to evening bulletin of regional centre of India Meteorological Department (IMD) in Bhubaneswar, Angul was the hottest place in the state recording maximum (day) temperature of 44.7 degree Celsius.
Capital city Bhubaneswar was the second hottest with 44.6 degree Celsius. The temperature in Bhubaneswar crossed 44 degree for the first time this season.
Bhubaneswar was followed by Baripada with 44.2 degree, while Boudh, Dhenkanal and Bhawanipatna recorded 43.7 degree. Similarly, Nuapada and Jharsuguda registered maximum temperature of 43.6 degree, while Jajpur, Talcher and Nayagarh sizzled under 43.5 degree Celsius.
The IMD said day temperature is very likely to further rise by 2°C at many places in the state during next 24 hours.
Consequently, maximum temperature is likely to be above normal by 4 to 6°C in some districts during next 4 to 5 days.
The weather office issued a red warning for the districts of Mayurbhanj, Jajpur, Keonjhar, Angul, Dhenkanal, Boudh, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Khurda and Cuttack and forecast that heat wave to severe heat wave condition.
It also issued orange warning and said heat wave condition is very likely to prevail in the districts of Deogarh, Sambalpur, Sonepur, Balangir, Nuapada, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nayagarh, Rayagada, Bhadrak, Balasore, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapada, Malkangiri, Ganjam and Gajapati.
