Bhubaneswar: When this minor girl left her home in Boudh district in May with dreams of leading a happy married life, little inclination she had of what laid in store for her.
On Saturday, she was rescued from a train in Allahabad by a team of Odisha police.
According to police sources, the lovestruck 14-year-old fell into the trap of her beau who had promised to marry her and lead a better life in distant land. On May 30, she eloped with the boy — Bimal Sethi — of Digi village, and soon they boarded a train at Balangir for Rajasthan.
To her horror, Sethi sold her to one Dilip Singh of Balda village for Rs 1.5 lakh on reaching Rajasthan. The following months proved brutal for the girl as her captor allegedly subjected her to physical and mental torture. But she fought back.
The minor escaped from his clutches and with the help of a local guy, Pintu Chaudhury, managed to contact her family back in her village early this month. Her brother requested Chaudhury to bring her sister back to Bhubaneswar. The family also informed the Manmunda police.
A team of 7-police personnel on August 4 left for Rajasthan. The team then rushed to Uttar Pradesh and rescued her from a Bhubaneswar-bound train in Allahabad.
