Moscow: In a shocking incident of juvenile crime, a 14-year-old girl went on a shooting rampage at a school in Russia’s Bryansk on Thursday.

She opened fire at her classmates, shooting dead one of them and wounding 5 others before killing herself, police said.

“According to preliminary investigation, a 14-year-old girl brought a pump-action shotgun to school, from which she fired shots at her classmates,” Russia’s Investigative Committee said in a statement.

It was her father’s gun, agencies said.

Police said the injured children were rushed to a medical facility for treatment.

The motive and circumstances of the shooting incident are being investigated, Russia’s state-owned TASS reported.

The shooting took place at Gymnasium No. 5 outside the central Bryansk, the southern Russian city bordering Ukraine which has seen occasional shelling and drone attacks in the ongoing war.

Reuters cited an image from news outlet Mash to report that the 14-year-old girl was sprawled on the floor, dressed in black, and was also armed with a hunting knife.
