145 Shramik Special Trains Carry 2.10 Lakh Stranded Passengers In A Single Day

New Delhi: Over 2.10 lakh stranded passengers travelled back to their home states in 145 Shramik Special trains on May 14 alone.

On the first day of their mission, on Labour Day (May 1), the Ministry of Railways had operated just four trains to transport 5000 migrant workers, pilgrims, tourists, students and others stranded in different places due to the coronavirus-induced nationwide lockdown.

A total of 12 lakh people have travelled by these special trains in a fortnight so far.

The Railways, operating these trains only as per the needs of different states, have the capacity to operate 300 trains and transport 4 lakh people daily.

The services of these special trains have so far been availed by Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Manipur, Odisha, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Tripura, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand and West Bengal.
