Baripada: Fifteen girl students of a government residential school in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district had to be hospitalised after allegedly falling ill following their morning breakfast at the hostel.
The students of Kasturba Gandhi Girls school at Bhaliadihi under Morada block are receiving treatment at Kishantandi Community Health Centre (CHC)
at Baramile.
According to sources, the students of the hostel were given biscuits and later served rice and curry around 9 am on Monday. They complained of uneasiness and stomach pain shortly after having breakfast. Hostel authorities promptly shifted them to the nearby CHC for medical attention. Doctors attending to the students have attributed the illness to suspected food poisoning.
The hostel warden and superintendent declined to comment on the incident when approached.
Block Education Officer Bijay Kumar Panigrahi said an inspection would be carried out at the hostel to assess hygiene standards. He noted that a previous medical team inspection had already flagged concerns over the safety of the drinking water supply at the facility.
