Cuttack: A 15-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a youth at Mangala Sahi in Choudwar of Cuttack district.
The accused, identified as Srikant Das of Chasapada area, has been arrested.
According to a complaint lodged by the girl’s mother at TPM police outpost here, a local youth forcibly took her daughter from the house and then raped her.
Although the incident took place on May 13, the matter came to the light after a complaint was lodged this morning.
On the basis of the allegation, police swung into action and managed to nab the accused.
On Thursday, a person identified as Kartik Sahu, who had been absconding in a minor rape and attempt to murder case for the past six days, was arrested from Singipania village in Puri district.
Sahu had allegedly raped a Class IV student on the premises of Jogeswar School under Gop police limits in the district and then attempted to kill her.
The girl had gone to a nearby market place. When she didn’t return home for long, her parents started looking for her. The child was later found on the school premises in a critical condition.
She was rushed to Charichhak Community Health Centre and later shifted to Capital Hospital in Bhubaneswar after her condition deteriorated.
Following the incident, the girl’s family members had lodged a police complaint alleging that an unidentified person took her to the school premises and raped her.
The Childline officials had lodged a complaint at Salepur police station in Cuttack district on the same day after they came to know that a minor girl was allegedly raped by her relative in Salepur. The complaint was lodged after the rape survivor’s family refused to get involved in a police case.
Though the incident had taken place a week ago, Childline officials took up the case after the matter came to their knowledge.
