15-Yr-Old Complainant Faints After ‘Jail Threat’ At Police Station In Odisha’s Mayurbhanj

Baripada: A serious allegation of misconduct has been reported from Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district, where a 15-year-old girl and her family have accused Morada police station IIC Sumeet Soren of intimidation and threats while recording statements related to her harassment complaint.

According to sources, the minor and her family initially approached Morada Police to file a complaint against the youth, whom she accused of repeatedly proposing to her and subjecting her to mental harassment. They alleged that instead of registering an FIR, the IIC engaged them in unrelated discussions and sent them away without taking action. Frustrated, the fami

ly contacted Betnoti SDPO Minati Biswal over the phone. Following instructions from the SDPO, they returned to the police station to submit a formal complaint. The family claimed that the IIC turned hostile after the senior official intervened. The girl was allegedly threatened with a seven-year jail term and asked to withdraw the complaint when her statement was being recorded.

It is being alleged that the officer’s aggressive behaviour caused severe trauma to the minor, who collapsed and lost consciousness shortly after leaving the police station. She was rushed to a local hospital in an unconscious state and later transferred to district headquarters hospital in Baripada for further treatment when her condition did not improve.

The victim’s mother has blamed the IIC for her daughter’s deteriorating health, alleging that the intimidation led to acute mental distress. The family has now submitted a formal complaint to the Mayurbhanj SP, seeking immediate action against the officer.

The IIC is yet to respond to these allegations.
