Nabarangpur: Around 150 students of a Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya (JNV) have been affected by diarrhoea in a week in Odisha’s Nabarangapur district.
According to sources, initially a few students of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya at Khatiguda in the district complained of vomiting and diarrhea. Later, more students were affected by the diarrhoea.
While the school authorities informed the health officials and took steps for the treatment of affected students, the cause of the disease has not been ascertained. The health officials, who carried out the treatment of the students in the school, collected samples of water and food and sent those for laboratory test.
In-charge principal pf the school Ratnakar Sahoo told the media that immediately after he was informed about the students’ illness, he had contacted the Community Health Centre (CHC) at Tentulikhunti.
“A medical team came to the school and started treatment of the students. About 80 per cent of the affected students have recovered from the illness. Four to five new cases were reported today and all of them are under medication,” he said.
The principal also said they had taken all precautionary measures to prevent the spread of the disease. After the cause of diarrhoea is known, further steps would also be taken, he added.
