16 Injured In Wall Collapse Triggered By Kalabaisakhi During Astaprahari In Odisha’s Sundargarh



Sundargarh: Kalabaisakhi storm wreaked havoc in several parts of Odisha since Saturday, causing extensive damage to houses and other structures and leaving over 16 people injured.

A report from Sundargarh said a wall collapse triggered by kalabaisakhi during a religious ceremony injured at least 16 people in the district late on Saturday night. The incident occurred at Baneikela

village under Bonai police limits.

According to sources, villagers were attending an ‘astaprahari nama yagna’ ceremony (round the clock naming ritual) when a wall collapsed around midnight. Chunks of the damaged wall fell on the unsuspecting persons attending the ceremony and injured 16 people. Locals present there immediately rescued the injured persons from the rubble and admitted them to the sub-divisional hospital at Bonai.

Around nine persons including eight women and a 7-year-old child had sustained critical injuries and doctors advised to shift them to Rourkela. The nine patients have been shifted to the Government hospital at Rourkela, where they are under critical care. Among the seven patients at Bonai hospital, five have been discharged after recovery.
