Baripada: Amid the gradual rise in COVID-19 cases in the north Odisha district of Mayurbhanj, 16 inmates in the sub-jail of Rairangpur have tested positive for the virus.
According to jail sources, 16 of 26 samples sent to the sub-divisional hospital for the test were found to be positive.
While the infected inmates are currently in isolation inside the jail premises, a decision on shifting them to the COVID hospital will be taken by the district administration after examining their health condition, the sources added.
Notably, the district has reported 183 positive cases in the last nine days since April 1 with the highest 52 cases on April 8. The last 24 hours saw 26 people testing positive for the virus.
