Bhubaneswar: Even as southwest monsoon made further advances in the country, hot and humid conditions continued to prevail in Odisha with as many as 16 places registering temperature of 40 degree Celsius or more on Sunday.
According to evening bulletin of the regional centre of India Meterorological Department (IMD) in Bhubaneswar, Boudh was the hottest place in the state with a maximum (day) temperature of 41.7 degree Celsius on the day.
Boudh was followed by Balangir with 41.5 degree Celsius, Malkangiri 41.3, Titlagarh 41, Jhrsuguda 40.7, Balasore 40.6 and Bargarh and Khurda 40.5 degree Celsius.
The IMD said monsoon further advanced into remaining parts of central Arabian Sea, some parts of north
Arabian Sea and some more parts of Maharashtra including Mumbai on Sinday. The northern limit of the monsoon passes through Thane, Ahmednagar, Beed, Nizamabad, Sukma, Malkangiri and Vizianagaram.
The Met office issued yellow warning and said Thunderstorm with lightning accompanied by gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph is likely at one or two places in the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Sambalpur, Jharsuguda, Boudh and Nuapada by 8.30 am on Monday.
It has also forecast that hot and humid condition at one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada,
Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam and Gajapati districts during the period.
The IMD has also forecast gradual rise in maximum temperature (day temperature) by 2 to 3 degree Celsius during next three days and no large change thereafter at many places in the state.
