Kabul: Female Foreign ministers of 17 countries from across the world expressed serious concern over human rights violations and restrictions against women in Afghanistan during a virtual meeting hosted by Australia.

They called on the Taliban to remove all restrictions, especially education barriers, against Afghan women, according to a Tolo News report.

“Ministers expressed deep concern about human rights violations, especially the denial of women and girls from full access and participation in education… It is essential that the Taliban lifts all barriers and prohibitions against the full participation of women and girls in genuine education and schooling,” said the statement released after the meeting, ANI reported.

All participants decided to continue to closely monitor Taliban’s actions.

US special envoy for Afghan Women and Human Rights, Rina Amiri on International Women’s Day stressed on importance of Afghan women’s participation for an inclusive, stable and economically viable Afghanistan.

Taliban, after taking control of war-torn Afghanistan last August, largely restricted women’s rights and freedoms.
