Bhubaneswar/Mumbai: Two flights from Bhubaneswar bound for Mumbai were delayed owing to heavy rains in the western metropolis on Friday.
The delayed flights from Bhubaneswar were Go Air flight G8-247 and an Air India flight. The Go Air flight was delayed by nearly 2 hours and the other one was delayed by 3 hours.
At least 17 flights to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport in Mumbai were diverted on Friday with the city witnessing heavy rain for the past two days.
The Santa Cruz area where the mumbai airport is located received 219 mm of rainfall.
A total of 79 flights were delayed at arrivals. Most delays happened between 12 pm and 3 pm. Visibility was affected hampering landing of flights. There was also water logging outside the departure section of the domestic terminal.
Mumbai’s Sion and Chembur areas faced massive water logging and traffic jams, according to reports. Traffic congestion on the Western Express Highway led to two-and-a-half-hour delay.
Rains will reduce, starting Saturday afternoon or evening, according to Skymet.
