Islamabad: There was chaos and anarchy in a Pakistan jail during Eid ul-Adha prayers.
As many as 17 prisoners escaped from Chaman jail in Balochistan province. As prison guards opened fire, one inmate was killed.
Malik Shuja Kasi, Balochistan Inspector General of Prisons, said that one inmate was killed, and some police guards and inmates were injured in the violence and firing.
The incident took place when Eid ul-Adha prayers were being offered yesterday in an open space inside the jail premises, Kasi said.
“Apparently these prisoners had planned the escape and executed it during Eid prayers. After they were let out of their barracks for Eid prayers, they violently attacked the police guards,” the IG Prisons claimed.
“They appear to have received assistance from outside to successfully escape,” Kasi remarked.
He informed that a list of prisoners who had escaped had been prepared.
Most of them were implicated in serious crimes such as terror activities, murder and attempted murder.
As Chaman jail is located close to the border town with Iran, security forces believe that the prisoners may have crossed the border with help from accomplices.
