Cuttack: In a shocking incident, a 17-year-old boy died after allegedly pouring diesel and setting himself on fire in Purighat area of Odisha’s Cuttack city on Wednesday.
As per preliminary information, the incident took place at a rented house at Gopaljew lane of Mathasahi under the jurisdiction of Purighat police station.
The deceased hailed from West Bengal. He was residing in a rented house in the locality and pursuing Plus II in a city college.
After spotting the boy in flame, locals informed the fire brigade officials who rushed to the spot and rescued him. By the time he was rescued, he succumbed to his burns.
The reason behind the extreme step taken by the boy was yet to be ascertained.
On being informed, a team from Purighat police station reached the spot, recovered the body for post-mortem, and initiated an investigation into the matter.
