Berhampur: When people throw the parts of their old vehicles in the trash can, a young student of the city has come up with a bike using only the scrap materials.
During the COVID-19 related lockdown, 17-year-old Master Raj came up with the idea of making a bike out of unused parts available in any scrap store or garage.
He said he used the bike parts of Pulsar, KTM and others. “I have purchased only a new battery, tube, clutch and break wires for the bike. I also used some galvanised iron (GI) pipes moulded with the help of welder in an auto garage where I was allowed to work for only 30 minutes per day. It took me three months to bring the bike on road,” said Raj.
The bike with attractive colour and fabrication fitted with a petrol engine of an old Hero Honda runs 50 to 60 km per liter. The total investment was only Rs 10,000, he claimed.
On his future plans, Raj said he aims at making battery operated bike and three-wheelers besides racing go-cart.
Son of well-established businessman GJ Ravi who owns GJ Enterprises on One Way Traffic Road, Raj is presently studying Plus Two Science in Jupiter Science College.
Ravi said Raj was creative since his childhood. When Raj was a student of Standard V, he made a wall hanging using broken glasses fitted with LED lights. He also fitted LED lights on my scooter, he added.
“During the lockdown, Raj told me his idea to make a bike out of scrap materials and requested me to give Rs 10,000 which I gladly gave,” said the proud father.
