Berhampur: A 17-year-old girl allegedly hanged herself to death in Odisha’s Berhampur city as her mother was reportedly against her pursuing a career in modelling.
A resident of Jagannath Vihar, Lane -2, under Bada Bazaar police limits, the Plus II student was staying with her mother and elder sister after the death of her father. When she did not respond to her mother’s calls to have dinner on Friday night, they dashed into the room and found her hanging with a ‘dupatta’. She was rescued and rushed to MKCG Medical College and Hospital, where the doctors declared her dead.
Police seized the body and handed it over to the family members after the postmortem on Saturday. A suicide note purportedly written by the girl was recovered from the room in which she clearly stated that she didn’t want to blame anyone for her decision, sources said.
