Cuttack: At least 18 children fell ill after eating ice-cream at a religious festival at a village in Odisha’s Cuttack district on Monday.
Sources said the children were admitted to a hospital as they fell ill after having ice-cream. The incident took place at Kumusar village under the jurisdiction of Banki police station in the district.
As
per locals, the children purchased ice cream from a vendor at the venue of an Astaprahari festival in the village. A few minutes later, they complained of uneasiness, irritation in the mouth, and other symptoms.
Family members and locals rushed the affected children to the sub-divisional hospital at Banki for treatment. Doctors provided them with necessary medical treatment. The condition of children is stated to be stable.
Meanwhile, villagers detained the ice-cream vendor and informed the police. Authorities collected samples of the ice cream and sent them for laboratory examination to determine the cause of contamination.
Doctors said the children suffered from infection and inflammation of the tongue, probably due to contaminated food.
