Bhubaneswar: Police have launched an investigation into the alleged electrocution death of a young man while visiting his girlfriend’s residence in Odisha’s Dhenkanal.
The victim, identified as Biswajit Behera (18), allegedly collapsed when he jumped over the boundary wall to enter the premises and came into contact with an electric wire late on September 28. He was rushed to Dhenkanal district headquarters hospital, but doctors declared him dead on arrival.
Biswajit’s family later lodged a complaint with the Sadar police, alleging foul play and involvement of the relatives of his girlfriend in the incident. His grandfather, Trilochan Behera, claimed Biswajit had asked a friend to join him but went alone after the friend declined. “Later his friend got a call from his girlfriend about a crowd behind her house. He found Biswajit lying on farmland, entangled in an electric wire. The friend also suffered electric shock while trying to help,” he was quoted as saying.
Biswajit’s father, Nagen Behera, also expressed deep suspicion over the circumstances surrounding his death. He claimed that his son was murdered in cold blood, and the scene was later manipulated to look like an accident.
Dhenkanal SP Abhinav Sonkar confirmed that a case has been registered and an investigation is underway. “Based on preliminary information, it appears to be electrocution, but the investigation will determine the exact cause of death,” he added.
