Bhubaneswar: Commerce and Transport Minister Padmanabha Behera on Thursday informed the Odisha Assembly that 18,683 people had died in road accidents in the last four years.
Replying to a question of BJP member Mohan Majhi, the Minister, while quoting the report of the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways, said 4463 people had died in 10,532 road accidents in 2016, 4,790 in 10,855 road accidents in 2017, 5,315 in 11,222 road accidents in 2018 and 4115 in 8,203 road accidents till September 2019.
He further said that taking the number of road accidents in the country, Odisha currently ranks 12th among the states.
