Nabarangpur: The Women and Child Development Department has declared 172 villages in Odisha’s Nabarangpur district as child marriage-free.

On the directive of the department in June last year, Collector Ajit Kumar Mishra had begun a drive to make Nabarangpur a child marriage-free district.

Following this, the District Social Welfare Officer (DSWO), Child Protection Officer (CPO) and the District ActionAid consultant conducted a field survey in different villages in the district and identified 5 villages as child marriage-free in November last year, 47 villages in April, 36 villages in May and 84 in July this year.

With this, 172 of 885 villages in the district were declared child marriage-free.
