Bhubaneswar: A 19-year-old D Pharma student of Government Women’s Polytechnic College at Chandrasekharpur here allegedly committed suicide in her hostel on Thursday.
The victim, identified as Rupali Rupanjita Dash (19), was a native of Kumbhira Gadia village in Jajpur’s Kalinga Nagar.
Her parents said that she had spoken to them the previous night and sounded normal. “She was apprehensive about the exam, but nothing out of the ordinary,” said Pushpanjali Dash, her mother. “She wanted to go on a study tour and sought our consent for it,” she added.
Rupali had fared poorly in a practical exam previously and had a theory exam on Wednesday. She had reportedly left her class midway and went to her hostel room.
Her friends found her dead and informed college authorities.
Her body was later sent to Capital hospital for autopsy.
Police investigation is underway.
