Cuttack: Two persons were arrested on Wednesday by Manglabag police in Odisha’s Cuttack city for allegedly kidnapping two labourers and demanding Rs one lakh ransom.
The accused have been identified as Binod Samal of Jobra and Debun Samal from Ghasia Sahi in the Manglabag area of Cuttack. They were nabbed following a complaint lodged at the Manglabag police station in Cuttack.
Sources said the labourers hailing from Jharkhand work for a contractor involved in the expansion of the SCB Medical College and Hospital in the city.
The victims reportedly had a verbal altercation with some intoxicated youth on January 5 in the Hadia Patha area. Following the incident, some miscreants abducted the two labourers and reportedly took them to an abandoned house in Jobra area.
The accused persons subsequently demanded a ransom of Rs one lakh from the families of the victims. They also threatened the families that both the workers would be killed if the ransom was not paid, sources said.
The police acted swiftly on the complaint, leading to the arrests of the suspects. Following their arrest, they have been forwarded to court.
