Crime Against Women

2 Arrested From Odisha After 16-Yr-Old Girl Raped By Auto Driver In Puducherry & 6 Techies In Chennai

Chennai: Even after nationwide protests and a mass movement against the brutal rape and murder of a junior doctor at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College & Hospital, there seems to be no end to crimes against women.

The latest horror story, from south India, is just as gruesome.

A 16-year-old girl from Mumbai was allegedly sexually assaulted — first by an auto-rickshaw driver in Puducherry and then by six techies in Chennai.

The teenager, found in a weak condition at Puducherry’s Beach Road, is currently undergoing treatment for trauma and personality disorder.

Police have arrested the auto driver, identified as Kaja Mohideen who hails from Kotakuppam in Tamil Nadu’s Villupuram district.

A team arrested two men from Odisha and one from Andhra Pradesh, while a hunt for three others is underway. The names of the accused have not been released yet.

All accused have been booked under Section 6 of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act, 2012, and Section 137 of BNS.

According to police, the minor had travelled to Puducherry with her family to visit relatives during Diwali. At around 9 pm on October 30, the girl left the relative’s house after a fight with her mother. She Mohideen’s auto, and asked him to take her to some tourist spots.

Seeing the young girl alone, the auto driver took her to his house at Kottakuppam, made her consume liquor and then assaulted her sexually, The Times of India reported.

The next morning, Mohideen dropped the girl at Auroville.

Instead of returning to her relative’s place, the minor went to Puducherry’s Serenity Beach, where the six techies befriended her and offered her a lift when she told them she wanted to visit a friend in Chennai.

Instead of dropping her at her destination, the six men took her to the room provided by their office.

She was confined in the room, and made to consume liquor. The six men thereafter took turns to rape her.

Two days later, the girl was sent to Puducherry by a cab which dropped her on Beach Road.

Her mother had, meanwhile, filed a complaint, based on which Grand Bazaar police registered a ‘missing girl’ case. The copes received information about a girl loitering on Beach Road and found her.

“She was weak and not in a position to explain anything. She was admitted to JIPMER (Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education & Research) where a child welfare committee team made preliminary inquiries after she recovered. She is under treatment for a personality disorder,” said a police official.

Initial inquiries revealed that Mohideen had assaulted the girl in a guesthouse before taking her to his house.
